There are many better websites that track the latest updates in AI and provide more in-depth analysis. Below are the systems I personally use and pay for with some of my thoughts

Image Generation

Turning text into images, and also manipulating existing images via text-based commands.

Midjourney

Midjourney is an AI-powered tool that generates high-quality images from text descriptions. It uses machine learning algorithms to interpret text and create visually stunning and detailed artworks. As of this writing Midjourney prompts were run via a Discord server, it is not the most user-friendly method, but they are updating it.

Sign up cost around $8 per month

Knowledge Management

This is easily one of the biggest areas of impact providing you have the foundational elements in place. Emails, notes, meetings, project updates, to-do list etc. All “overseen” by the eye in the sky of you own personal AI assistant.

You must be using a text-based system (i.e. Obsidian or Notion) or be able to export your data as text.

Otter.AI

Otter.ai is an AI-powered transcription service that converts spoken language into written text. It offers real-time transcription, recording, and collaboration features, making it ideal for meetings, interviews, lectures, and other spoken events. With its ability to identify and differentiate between speakers, Otter.ai provides accurate and searchable transcriptions, helping users easily capture and review important information.

When combined with other knowledge management tools such as Obsidian and Notion, Otter allows you to leverage AI for day-to-day work.

NOTION

I view this tool as the primary knowledge management tool for collaborations or any public-facing information. Like OBSIDIAN, it is a text-based system with collaboration capabilities, permission settings, tool integration, and excellent project management features. It allows different views of tables, such as project roadmaps displayed as tables, galleries, or even Gantt charts.

To fully leverage its advanced features, a license is needed, but at $8 a month, it's worth it. It is NOT open source and is a cloud-based system, which currently does not work well offline. AI features are additional cost, but well worth it.

OBSIDIAN

This is one of the most powerful, yet underrated tools available. It has a steep learning curve, primarily because advanced features are accessed through add-ons. It's a fully open-source, markdown-based knowledge management system with advanced database scripting and tight AI integration. This allows for not only conversation "note" retrieval but also AI-based searches and real-time note matching. It achieves this by feeding your entire Obsidian vault to AI via your OpenAI API key.

Think of every page of OneNote as an entry in a database, with the ability to add metadata, links to other entries, and create custom views within notes based on metadata. One of the attractive features of this tool is that it is all open-source and exclusively built on Markdown language. Another powerful feature is the ability to visualize the interconnectivity of the notes via its network diagrams.

Text Based GPT

NoteBookLM

Normally I'm a Microsoft person, but after using this system for a weekend, I quickly upgraded to the paid version. It's a very powerful platform built to help you "talk" to your data—nothing more, nothing less. The appealing aspect was the "click to refresh" option (Google Drive only), which is a game changer.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is an advanced language model developed by OpenAI, designed to generate human-like text based on the input it receives. It can be used for a variety of applications, including customer service, content creation, and conversational agents. ChatGPT excels at understanding context and providing coherent, relevant responses, making it a valuable tool for enhancing communication and automation.

Microsoft CoPilot

This has great potential, allowing you to access the power of ChatGPT within your Microsoft applications. I tried it for several weeks but ended up canceling my license. If this is your only experience with AI, it is impressive. However, compared to other platforms, it's just OK. It has the nice feature of direct access in applications, but the functionality is currently limited.

Perplexity

Great system for performing research and leveraging the latest online data in its responses. Another platform I upgraded to a paid account within a few hours of using.

Claude

Claude is an AI language model created to assist with natural language processing tasks. It can understand and generate text, offering support for writing, summarization, translation, and more. Claude is designed to improve efficiency and accuracy in handling text-based tasks, making it a versatile resource for both personal and professional use.

Team GPT

Team GPT is a collaborative AI tool designed to enhance teamwork and productivity. It integrates AI-powered language models to assist teams with tasks such as brainstorming, drafting documents, and managing communications. Team GPT helps streamline workflows, improve clarity, and foster collaboration by providing intelligent, context-aware support for team projects.

Edge Browser

By opening documents in the Edge Browser on Windows machines, you enable the integration of advanced AI with your local files. This article I made is a bit out of date but will get you started.

Open the Edge browser, click the icon (shown below) at the top right of the browser, and you're good to go. Now you can ask questions about the current contents of the browser, whether it's a PDF, Word file, webpage, etc. This could be anything from a contract, research article, or a Q&A page.
